Creative Writing Programme in English
Michael Kerins
It is proper that Karen should be remembered with a creative writing project.
Karen Perkinton was a force for creative good. After some of my earliest visits to Russia, she encouraged me to commit to paper the short stories I had written about these travels. She was first to read my story about the little boy who had to go and buy some milk, in Russian Moloko (молоко). Her encouragement led to a few more stories including Dog,(собачья): Mistake (ошибка): Yellow (желтый). With Karen’s encouragement there was soon a whole collection that became known as ten.
Karen was the lynchpin of our movie company Nitespool and her skills as a movie producer knew no bounds. It is fair to say that Neighbourhood Watch would never have happened if it had not been for Karen’s drive and determination.
Karen’s writing was rich and varied and included screen-plays, prose, short stories and of-course poetry, of which she was passionately fond since her early years.
