Michael's visits do mean a lot.

When I first met Michael I was a student of foreign languages faculty, so communicating with Michael was really helpful for my professional development as a future teacher of English.

Michael really does a lot when interacting with students. The most significant thing is that he introduced Russian students to a kind of art Russians normally do not know - storytelling. Through Michael's story telling students get sense of the culture, this way they start not only understand but also feel the so-called cross-cultural dialogue, which should be primarily important for any teacher of English.

During his visits Michael does a lot for homeless children at Bridge of Love. The most valuable result of his activity is children's smiling faces, their joy and feel of happiness.

Michael is the initiator of Sexual Health project. The problem is that in Russia this theme is really spoken about. Michael is the person who makes young people be aware of various problems and dangers which they may experience. Through special authentic text which are annually offered for interpreting contest young people in Perm learn basic things about sexual health. May be this way Michael has saved many lives of young Russians (however exaggerated it may seem from aside).

When Michael is in Russia he does a lot of cultural work. He communicates closely with Russians in their everyday environment. He knows pretty much of how Russians live, what their problems are. He always appears to be an example of how routine problems might be solved through a different, European approach. This way for Russians Michael appears to be a kind of cultural mediator who helps people in a distant region of Russia get closer to global culture through their everyday life.

 

Everything I said about Michael above is only a smaller part of what he does. This is an example of altruistic desire to make the world better.
